Cognoscenti products online
Cognoscenti
is currently developing an online boutique to bring to its followers an individual and unique selection of home, wardrobe
and store-cupboard essentials. The collection will reflect the cognoscenti philosophy of investing in high quality basic ingredients
that when put together with a little know-how and finesse, create something special - whether we're talking food, wine,
wardrobe or home design. There will be beautiful things for him, her and home - something for everyone. Look out for more
news as the collection develops.
We've been aiming
to launch the first of our collections online this autumn, 2009. However, such is life, things are taking a little more
time than expected. We hope to be ready to bring these to you in the new year 2010.

New upscale brand from Zara outfit
Great news for fans of the Spanish brand Zara, who have launched a new, slightly more upscale clothing
and accessories line. Not yet in the UK, I checked out their new brand Uterque on a recent trip to Barcelona. I was pleasantly
surprised by the collection of well designed, reasonable quality clothes and accessories, which were priced pretty well too.
Particularly impressive were the bags, ranging from totes, shoppers and day bags to natty little evening bags. The quality
and dye of the leather used felt as though it should be carrying a hefty price tag, but didn't. Contemporary takes on
classic seventies and forties designs lent the pieces a sense of longevity that would ensure you get good value out of your
purchases. I'll look forward to seeing Uterque on these shores, hopefully sometime soon.

What a fine mess
I love summer,
it smells good, feels good and damn, it looks good. My only frustration on sunny days in the capital is the choice of decent
outside drinking spots. I mean really decent ones, where you don’t have to wear a dust mask or shout over the roar of
the traffic and with a great wine list and menu on offer day and evening.
One such haven is Manicomio (roughly translated, Italian for ‘nuthouse’ – perhaps
that’s my attraction) on Duke of York Square, which I love for its fantastic food, wines, situation and friendly and
welcoming staff. However, with the alternatives
on offer so limiting I find myself on its terrace at an almost embarrassing frequency. So, I was almost relieved to notice
that right next door those artful chaps at the Saatchi Gallery have now opened its own café, bar, restaurant Gallery
MESS… and what a fine mess it is. The design uses the grand architectural features of the building to great effect,
keeping decorative treatments to a minimum so that the brickwork and high arched ceilings dominate beautifully. The rest is
simple and pretty minimal, punctuated with a selection of paintings and sculptures from its collection of course, and a nod
to the art and design world here and there, such as in the Pantone sale and pepper grinders on the terrace tables. The menu
is simple and offers freshly prepared breakfast and brunch, lunch and dinner. There’s also the now almost de rigueur
afternoon tea, cake-stands and all. The house champagne is Mercier, a very decent glass of fizz at a not so ridiculous price
of £8.50 a glass. So, bring on some more of that lovely sunshine.Gallery Mess, Duke of York Square, Kings Road, Chelsea; www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk/gallerymess
